How to Replace a Kitchen Sink

 

The two much common kitchen sinks is undermount kitchen sink and self-rimming kitchen sink (also called top mount sink). Here, we will show you how to install a basic, self-rimming stainless steel sinks.

 

The first step, you need to measure your sink to ensure the new one you buy is fit your countertop.

 

Tools and material: This installation you will need the new sink, tape measure, plumber’s putty, putty knife, and plumber’s tap. Be sure you have adjustable wrenches, tongue & groove pliers, pipe wrench, screwdrivers, the socket wrench & sockets or open-end wrenches, silicone sealant, utility knife small bucket and shop towels. Also a work light, extension cord, work gloves and safety glasses. You want to buy new strainers with your sink and drain pipe & fittings and a hacksaw.

 

The Installing Steps:

 

Step 1.Turn off the hot and cold water shut-off valves. Generally, they are under the sink, located in the cabinet directly. After the valves shut-off, open up the faucet to relieve the pressure. Disconnect the water supply line and remove the old faucet, handles and the soap dispenser if there is one.

 

Step 2.Turn off the power running to the garbage disposal and remove it.Remove the slip nut and gasket connecting the drain assembly to the floor pipe. Under the sink, loosen the clamp holding the sink in place and turn to the side. Then use a box knife to score along the sink to separate it from any caulking and carefully lift the old sink out.

 

Step 3.Gently remove leftover caulk without scraping the counter and clean the surface. after put the new sink to the cutout to check it is ok, then take it out. Reattach any clamps that hold the sink to the counter.Place plumber's putty around the new drain and strainer. Place the drain and strainer in their respective holes and tighten with the washer and nut that came with the assembly. Remove excess plumber's putty.

 

Step 4.Now, you can add the new caulk to the underside edge of the new sink. And carefully place the new sink into the hole, Reattach the garbage disposal.Smooth out caulk that seeps out from the sides.

 

The last step, turn the power back on and test the sink. Make sure there are no leaks.
